The assignment of this project consisted in designing a wallpaper for the reception wall of a botanical garden located in Barcelona, Spain. Taking into account the characteristics of the theme of the botanical garden, I looked for a design that alluded to a plant element. The representation should be abstract, avoiding the predictable or obvious and in accordance with the environment where the wallpaper would be located.
A botanical garden is a garden with a documented scientific collection of living plants, which in addition to its aesthetic or urbanistic interest, has scientific research, conservation, exhibition and educational purposes.
After previous research on botanical gardens and all the plants that can be found in them, I was curious about a special plant that has always caught my attention, the "Vriesea Splenders" or also called "Indian Feather", belonging to the family of bromeliads.
The idea was to create a pattern based on the peculiarity of the shape of this flower and create something different, with organic shapes, which attracts the viewer's attention but at the same time integrates into the space where it will be placed.
Inspired by this unique and peculiar plant and a series of reference images, I started to make some sketches, I played with different shapes until I reached the final composition, which would be composed of a pattern of simple organic shapes, abstract with an innovative touch.
